One of the very long, ongoing, multi-part stories I have been telling our daughter Jane for years now is about a girl named Jane and the fox and eagle who live with her in a sort of hundred-acre-wood setting. The fox and eagle first appeared in an episode where she converted them to vegetarianism in a kind of Scrawny Tawny Lion scenario (http://littlegoldenbooks.wikia.com/wiki...).
Many many things have happened to Jane, Fox, and Eagle since then. They are currently on the trail of a mysterious giant flying hat that drops wildly assorted non-giant hats across the landscape. In the course of their investigations (together with some conspiracy-fan porcupines) they are about to get on a train to meet a man selling a “vehicle” that looks a lot like a hat. At the train station is a snack bar selling nuts and berries and things but also some new variations on old favorite snacks, including rice mice and grilled tofu fish on a stick. And so we we were moved to spend our Saturday afternoon making these. (The tails of the mice are fried sweet potato, because why not be extra?)
