punch

When I was a teenager my school had a computer as big as a room that ran off punched tape like this. The year I left they demolished it and bought a BBC Micro that had about a million times more computing power. I don't know if that shows how unbelievably old I am or how slow the school was to understand how important computers were going to be. Of course my phone now has a million times more computing power than that BBC Micro.

The printing company I worked for in the 70’s used a Friden Tape Punch keyboard that output punched tape to output phototype layouts on a Mergenthaler VIP phototypesetter. The accounting department used an IBM 407 with punch cards for payroll.
