@mikenmar I feel you. It's a real challenge to the communal space, similar to how there's a discussion in academia right now about the centrality of alcohol in conferences and networking. People don't even know they're peer-pressuring you.
@Goshawk Yeah, I don't drink either, and I often feel obligated to join my co-workers for after-work drinks. The thing with the food doesn't feel to me like peer-pressure, but the alcohol thing has more of that. For whatever reason, people can understand why you don't want to eat that chocolate cake and aren't too curious about it, but they almost always want to know your reasons for not drinking alcohol.

I have a powerful sweet tooth, but I never eat any of it. It's just not in my diet, and I worked really hard to lose a ton of weight. Every time I go in or out of my office, it becomes an exercise of will to bypass these treats.
Would I be an asshole for complaining about this? So far, I've just decided to accept the little challenges it presents.
