per wikipedia, working on an IMI-500 workstation connected to a cray supercomputer (the X-MP). they produced something like half an hour of animation to the film, with each frame taking a sizable amount of time to render.
it's a silly movie, but i have a soft spot for it in my heart from all those childhood viewings. a cheapie blu-ray of it came in the mail today and i'm going to revisit tonight for kicks 'n' giggles.
