My fellow birders think I’m crazy for how much I love starlings. Sure they’re an incredibly invasive species crowding out many North American birds but they are absolutely fascinating.

Sort of an update. They pulled up stakes yesterday afternoon and now the nest is vacant. Until next year, probably.
In the early evening I startled one of them who was roosting in another camellia nearby. It flitted a little wobbly and new to flying up through a gap in the aluminum slats above the patio and then it darted away out of view.
